When “Green Book” won Best Picture earlier this year, it ended up being the first time since “Crash” screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (back in 2004) that the Oscar winner for Best Picture had premiered outside of the Telluride Film Festival. In fact, before the “Green Book” win, every single Best Picture winner this decade has gone first to Telluride and then either screened at TIFF or completely bypassed it (“Birdman”). Will magic strike twice again for TIFF this year? After all, Taika Waititi’s much-buzzed about“Jojo Rabbit” will be skipping Telluride this year in favor or Toronto ..
This is what I have so far in terms of “most likely” to screen at the Telluride Film Festival, which is happening August 30th to September 2nd.

The latest additions/retractions have to do with James Gray‘s “Ad Astra” not going to Telluride (Thanks to Jeff Wells over at Hollywood-Elsewhere) and Tom Harper‘s “The Aeronauts,” despite skipping Venice, going to the big dance.
Deadline: “The Tom Harper-directed movie has been widely tipped to debut at a major fall festival. Our sources indicate Telluride is currently in the plans, not least due to the higher presence of Academy voters at the Rocky Mountain fest.”
THR: “At the same time, Amazon continues to have major awards ambitions for The Aeronauts, which is tipped for play at both the Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals. The adventure-drama reunites Jones and Redmayne for the first time since awards darling The Theory of Everything.”
