Quentin Tarantino is, again, insisting that he plans to quit making movies after his 10th feature. Of course, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is his ninth feature, so that just leaves one more.
This whole notion of retiring after 10 movies comes from his theory that a director’s quality of work only gets worse as they go along. Tarantino wants his filmography to be perfect or, as he puts it, “without a misfire.”
Speaking with GQ Australia, spoke about his impending retirement:
“I think when it comes to theatrical movies, I’ve come to the end of the road,” he says. “I see myself writing books and starting to write theatre, so I’ll still be creative. I just think I’ve given all I have to give to movies.”
I do have to mention that the more I think about it, the more I realize that “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” is just this towering statement from Tarantino. I cannot wait for you all to witness this movie. It will put to shame everything that has come out so far this year from Hollywood.
“Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” star Brad Pitt believes Tarantino is very serious about retiring:
“No, I don’t think he’s bluffing at all,” says Pitt, when we put this to him. “I think he’s dead serious. And I kind of openly lament that to him, but he understands the math of when he feels like directors start falling off their game. But he has other plans and we’re not going to have to say goodbye for a long time.”
I just don’t want this final movie to be the R-rated Star Trek movie he keeps talking about directing.
