Rumors that Sam Raimi was coming back to direct his long-lost project “Spider-Man 4” were swirling all around the interweb yesterday. Marvel Comics’ official Twitter account posted a cryptic teaser image of a spider crawling over a webbed number four. Nothing else was mentioned and we just had the image to decipher our own conclusions.
If you remember, Raimi had some unfilmed ideas for his fourth “Spider-Man” movie, but that project never happened because, well, “Spider-Man 3” turned everybody off (although I was, curiously, a fan).
Consequentially, #SpiderMan4 started trending, Marvel cover artist Alex Ross tweeting and then deleting the opening credits of “Spider-Man 2,” meshed with his own work, sure didn’t help in taming down the rumors a bit.
Anyway, today Marvel has posted a new teaser image, this time of a number 3. The four was part of a weirdly-timed countdown, and nothing more.
Next.
