‘Django Unchained’ Director’s Cut To Be Released By Quentin Tarantino

May 1, 2019 Jordan Ruimy

Tarantino is most likely going to premiere his next movie “Once Upon A Time in America” at Cannes (a few sources have confirmed that to me). However, Tarantino has been busy on a few fronts of late; Netflix has just released a 5-episode director’s cut of “The Hateful Eight” and now he’s revealed, speaking with /Film’s Chris Evangelista, that he also recut “Django Unchained” into a director’s cut:

“But for instance like take Django [Unchained], I’ve actually cut a director’s cut of Django. That’s about like three hours and 15 minutes, or three hours and 20 minutes, something like that.So I’ve actually done that. We’re just kind of waiting some time after Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, and we’ll release that eventually.”

Tarantino also adds that he will do re-editing for “Kill Bill.”

And, of course, he will hopefully one day get around to editing both Kill Bill films together for the much-talked-about Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair.

I was initially mixed on Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” but, over time, I’ve warmed up to it, it’s just a very entertaining 3 hour movie. That’s it, that’s all. Jamie Foxx is great, Christoph Waltz is worthy of the Oscar that he won for his role as Dr. King Schultz and Samuel L Jackson steals the show. Of course, it still doesn’t belong next to Tarantino’s three best films, all released during his peak years in the ‘90s (“Reservoir Dogs,” “Pulp Fiction,” “Jackie Brown”), but it’s an incredibly re-watchable trifle.
