During the Oscars I was on Twitter, tweeting my night away, I now feel like I didn’t experience anything but tweets during the telecast. Moral of the story: Don’t tweet.
Disney’s animation, of late, has been rather meh, they have decided to concentrate on Pixar sequels rather than original content. When is the next “Inside Out” going to be released?
Wasn’t even a close contest.
Great, right? I would have preferred Wes Anderson’s ISLE OF DOGS, but Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is a visual groundbreaker. I can’t wait to see it again. So much detail in every single frame of that movie.
Viva Mexico! Cuaron won his second Best Director Oscar, a true master of the medium. He also won for being his cinematographer. Is there anything this man can’t do?
When I saw John Lewis coming onstage to present a clip of “Green Book” I knew the Academy was preparing for damage control when/if Peter Farrelly’s controversial race-relations buddy-comedy won Best Picture. Lewis’ introduction was very strange, he mumbled through the whole thing, maybe a little too much champagne that evening?
The Oscars were just shoving “Bohemian Rhapsody’ down our throats all evening, not just in the ceremony,, did you see that extended “American Idol” ad with the new contestants singing a Queen song? Gawd. "
Only shocking surprise winner of the evening.
These 91st Oscars ended up being one of the more watchable endeavors. Maybe it was because there was no host this go-round to make us cringe with insider Hollywood jokes and political speech. The ride wasn’t smooth, by a long shot, but it made for a more-than-delightfully delivered 3+ hour broadcast. The ratings were also higher this year, albeit, it still was the second worst-watched Oscars in history, only surpassed by last year’s telecast.
As the saying goes, an Oscar does not maketh the man, or something like that, but Spike Lee finally winning an Oscar was a clear highlight. Too bad he had to play sore loser once “Green Book” won.
Disgraceful.
It won!
Where was all the love for “Paddington 2”? Unjustly snubbed by the academy. A re-watch of the film is due in the Witkowski/Ruimy household. I should have actually included Hugh Grant in the Supporting Actor category, he practically stole the show, no offense Mr. Bear
If anything, the Oscars proved that there is such a thing as too much Queen. Rami Malek winning the Best Actor Oscar for lip-synching his way through the movie was fine, I can accept that because I thought he was fine in the role, but sound editing? You would think that, at the very least, sound editing should go to a movie that perfects the synching of lips and vocals, right? In all honesty, I’ve never liked music-based movies going the lip-synch route in films, if only every rock-based musical could be like “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.”
