It was with great sadness that I heard the news today of stand-up comedian Brody Stevens’ apparent suicide at his L.A. residence.
Brody was found hanging in his home this afternoon, shortly after 1 PM.
I enjoyed Brody’s comedy and standup — he co-created his own Comedy Central series, "Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!" with his Zach Galifianakis.
Both times I met Brody, at the Montreal Just For Laughs Festival, he was chummy and always willing to take the time to talk. Great guy.
His last comedy set was just two days ago at the famed Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. If anybody has a video of that set I would love to see it as I’m sure, knowing Brody, it was self-referential and highly personalized
For movie fans, Brody had several roles in movies, such as "The Hangover" "The Hangover II" and “Due Date.”
He has openly admitted to having struggled with mental health issues in the past and was hospitalized in 2011 after suffering a bipolar episode. Here’s a serious conversation TMZ had with him last year about Kanye West and mental health.
