Christopher Nolan’s eventual take on Marvel movies will no doubt spark more conversation, words which could be as impactful as Scorsese’s in the never-ending “Marvel is/isn’t Cinema” debate. His take on the controversy will eventually come to light when he surely does promo for his upcoming movie “Tenet.”
However, “The Dark Knight” director once had a few choice words about how Marvel movies operate in ways that are too open-ended for his movie tastes. [via MTV]
“There’s so much pressure for sequels, but nobody stops and to ask “does it really add something?” and I find that unfortunate. Back in the day when it was considered a little presumptuous to say “I’m going to make this film and we’re going to make 9 of them in a row and you’re going to love them as an audience””
“If you look at what we had done with the Dark Knight trilogy. We always had the thought that if people liked the first one then maybe we’ll get to do another, but we weren’t going to save anything. I think that’s what studios should be doing these days, concentrate on the now and not save things for other films”
There also once was short-lived controversy that had Nolan, supposedly, calling the MCU “not real movies.” [link] The director eventually backtracked and said he was misquoted.
