Robert Eggers’ “The Lighthouse” is being released this Friday. I’ve already gave my take on it at Cannes (“an above-average B-movie”). However, we can expect more from the talented writer-director of “The Witch” as he is already working on his next movie, this one set in the 10th century and titled “The Northman.”
According to Deadline, “The Northman” has caught the attention of a few noteworthy actors, including Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård, Anya Taylor-Joy, Bill Skarsgård, and Willem Dafoe — all are currently in talks to star in Eggers’ upcoming project.
No word yet on what “The Northman” is going to be about, and I doubt we will get much plot detail, but I have been a major advocate of Eggers’ filmmaking skills ever since I saw “The Witch” at Sundance 5 years ago. He’s the real deal, even if I thought “The Lighthouse,” a compulsively watchable film, was a tad beneath Eggers’ skills as a director.
