Netflix’s plan to theatrically release Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” has not gone according to plan. Theater chains such as AMC and Regal have refused to show the film due to the streaming giant’s decision to stream “The Irishman” just three weeks before it is released in theaters. It’s become such a headache to find theater chains willing to screen “The Irishman” that Netflix now intends to screen the film at a 1000-seat Broadway theater [via Deadline].
“The Irishman” will be shown at the Shubert Organization’s Belasco Theatre in New York City, making it the first movie screening for the 112-year-old theater. The dates of the NYC run at the Belasco are from November 1st to December 1st. There will be eight screenings per week spanning Tuesday to Sunday, with matinee showings on the weekends.
As for the rest of the country, arthouses across the country have scheduled the film and there are also plans between Netflix and various Alamdo Drafthouses to screen “The Irishman” as well.
