The Rome Film Festival has decided to honor John Travolta with its Lead Acting Award for his performance in “The Fanatic,” which was directed by Fred Durst, frontman for Limp Bizkit.
“I’m delighted and honoured to bestow this award on John Travolta for his performance in The Fanatic,” the festival’s artistic director Antonio Monda stated. “It’s a stirring and surprising performance that succeeds in showing how dreams often turn into nightmares in Hollywood.”
In the thriller, Travolta plays Moose, a fan obsessed with an actor, Hunter Dunbar. The Rome Festival award is surprising considering the movie has been panned left and right by critics. Its 18% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 17 Metascore have positioned it upfront as a contender for next year’s Razzie awards.
