According to CNBC, So far in 2019 Disney films have sold more than $8.1 billion in tickets. That’s a total of $2.7 billion earned domestically. In total, Disney held nearly 40% of the U.S. box office gross. If that isn’t monopolization of the movie market then I don’t know what is.
It wasn’t just “Avengers: Endgame.” ($2.8 billion worldwide). There was also “Toy Story 4” ($1 billion ), “Aladdin” ($1 billion), “Lion King” (1.6 billion) and “Dumbo” ($350 million).
Disney still has three major titles waiting to be released this year: “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” “Frozen 2″ and, especially, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” All of these movies are expected to make big bucks, which has led some experts into predicting that Disney may very well account for more than 50% of the U.S. Box-Office by year’s end.
