Adam Sandler and the Safdies will begin shooting their new, as of yet untitled, film in April.
Earlier this year, Sandler mentioned that this new project would revolve around the sports card collecting business. If you remember, “Uncut Gems,” set in New York City’s diamond district, had a few NBA players cameoing as themselves.
Back in October, I had some intel that The Safdies were shooting their next film with Sandler in the winter. Then, in an interview with Vanity Fair, Sandler confirmed that this mysterious new Safdie film would be shooting in the “late winter”, which probably means a 2024 or late 2023 release.
As mentioned via my intel, this latest Safdies joint will not be produced by A24, with Netflix potentially eyeing the project.
Sandler delivered one of his greatest performances in the Safdies’ “Uncut Gems” back in 2019. The movie itself was one of the best of the last decade.
The Safdies were recently hired to write and direct a remake of the Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte crime drama, “48 Hours.” We don't know exactly what’s going on with that project, but the Sandler film is definitely happening beforehand.
