When the news hit that T.J. Miller was a bit of a misogynist asshole on the set of "Silicon Valley," well, let's just say, that we weren't that surprised. As they say, his reputation preceded him and you would hear talk all around the town of his behavior. He was rightfully let go of his acting duties on the HBO show, and thus the controversy surrounding the show was vanquished, or at least we thought.
Now, according to one actress from “Silicon Valley,” not only should Miller be held accountable for his actions, but so should the rest of the male-dominated cast and crew for "enabling" him.
In a series of tweets, actress-comedian Alice Wetterlund spoke of her experience working with Miller on the set of the popular, award-winning HBO series:
“I hope to not ruin it for you, but TJ Miller was a bully and petulant brat and pretty much everyone who had any power on that (almost all male) set, including the male cast members, enabled him and were complicit in his unprofessionalism. They can fuck off forever,” she tweeted.
“I’m pretty open about this, and I don’t know if other women on the show had a different experience than me, but it was kind of a nightmare.”
After his exit from the show, the actor was arrested for calling in a fake bomb threat on a train. Miller was arrested and, to boot, he was intoxicated at the time of his arrest.
As a fan of the show, I do remember Wetterlund having had a small, meaningless role in the series. Come to think of it, It looks like her character, Carla Walton, was scrapped after only six episodes. I do not know if she has the right to really criticize the on-set "enabling," especially if it means she's only appeared in 6 of the show's 60+ episodes, but her accusations to raise valid points about toxic bro culture, such as what happened at VICE.
