This film, "Mary Queen of Scots," has to do with the titular monarch (as played by Saoirse Ronan) and her bitter, bloody, rivalry with Queen Elizabeth (Margot Robbie) in the 1500s.
Check out the cinematography by dp John Mathiesen. Wowza. Directed by Josie Rourke and written by Beau Willimon ("House of Cards"), this could either be a stuffy, dull epic or the kind of risk-taking, feminist, endeavor, I welcome with open arms. Early word has it that Ronan has a graphic sex scene here. This is her adult home-coming role and I wouldn't be surprised if she finally gets that Oscar for this performance. It will surely debut at TIFF.
This Focus Features release opens on 12.4.
