I seemed to have missed this week's edition of Indiewire‘s Kate Erbland and her, always interesting, column “Girl Talk” which tackled newly-retired Cameron Diaz in a write-up entitled: "As Cameron Diaz Announces Her Retirement, Her Contributions to Women in Comedy Can’t Be Overstated".
A career-summary of sorts, I understand that Erbland knows her stuff, but Kate, what's the deal with Roger Kumble‘s The Sweetest Thing being a fave of yours? I was as irked by the strange rave as HE's Jeffrey Wells was on his own site. As Jeff mentioned, the film has a 26% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Not just that, Kate completely ignored Diaz' top-tier performance in the late Curtis Hanson's "In Her Shoes," wha!? No mention either of her scathing and daring turn in "The Last Supper" or as the late owner's daughter in Oliver Stone's "Any Given Sunday."
Time-capsule Diaz for me will always be her acting in these films: “The Mask,” “There’s Something About Mary,” “Being John Malkovich,” and “Vanilla Sky”.
