20th Century Fox’s Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” is reportedly done shooting but still has no director, no really. Reports had star Rami Malek, who plays late Queen Front-man Freddy Mercury, clashing with director Bryan Singer and then production halting when Singer went AWOL from the London set. Singer was eventually fired, and then two days later was, finally, after years of stories, hit with a sexual assault lawsuit.
His replacement was Dexter Fletcher (“Eddie the Eagle”) but he was not in Vegas this week to promote the film at CinemaCon. Fox decided not to mention who would take director's credit for the film, but had the confidence to promote the film regardless. That's how much confidence they have in it.

Malek: “When I got this role, I thought, ‘Oh my God, this could be a career-defining performance.’ And about two minutes later, I thought, ‘This could be a career killer.'
As an actor, you look at the humanity of someone, the struggles that he overcame throughout his life. Throughout the course of the film, you’ll learn so much about him that gives the way he sings the music and plays that music — it fills it with pain and beauty.”
Malek also said Mercury was “the greatest performer that has existed.” I would think he's up there, but Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are my choice.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” will be in theaters November 2.
