I wrote about the intense campaign happening for Kathryn Bigelow's "Detroit." The film's studio Annapurna is heavily pushing its FYC ads for the film and has also decided to re-release it. All this to say, why not? I dug "Detroit," it was a ferocious and provoking indictment of current race relations in America DESPITE the film taking place more than 50 years ago. Will Annapurna's campaign push work? Who knows, but its been a weak year for the "Oscar" movie, so you never know, especially with Bigelow being a favorite of the industry, I can see "Detroit" nabbing the final Best Picture slot, but its got a lengthy road ahead if it wants to do that. According to Deadline, “The reissue will encompass 10 cities and 20-25 screens in markets that will include New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Palm Springs, Maui and Aspen” and Annapurna has just released the above FYC ad for the film.
