The Washington Post is reporting that Oliver Stone, interviewing Putin for the upcoming his upcoming Showtime Documentary “The Putin Interviews,” showed the former KGB agent Kubrick’s famous Cold War satire "Dr. Strangelove." According to the WaPo article, Putin had previously never seen the film before. Stone, obviously, doesn't reveal how Putin responded to the film, which will air in four hour-long segments beginning June 12.
Stone had previously interviewed Cuba’s Fidel Castro and Venezuela’s Hugo Chávez, both world leaders that have had difficult relations, to say the least, with the United States. This is just fascinating stuff and one would love to be in the room where Kubrick's cold war masterpiece is shown to Putin. Oh to be a fly on the wall .... Hopefully Stone's cameras were rolling and recording Putin as he was watching the film, one would be curious to SEE his reaction to the atomic bomb being dropped and the whole planet vaporizing into nothing but dust ....
