Don't listen to the naysayers, American cinema is alive and well. PTA, Linklater, Cuarron, Coppola, Bigelow, Payne, Haynes, Nolan, Soderbergh, Aronofsky, Villeneuve, Scott, Baumbach, Pixar and many more all coming out with new movies in 2017

Contrary to what Scorsese, Almodovar, Scott and many other filmmakers have been touting, cinema is not "gone." This next 8 or so months of movies seems almost too good to be true. Am I imagining this? Are we seriously getting new movies from all of these great directors?

This doesn't even count the great films I've seen at Sundance this year: Luca Gadagnino's "Call Me By Your Name," David Lowery's "A Ghost Story," Michael Showalter's "The Big Sick," Dee Rees' "Mudbound," Cory Finley's "Thoroughbred"  Kogonado's "Columbus" and Geremy Jasper's "Patti Cake$."

How about the great films already released this year? Jordan Peele's "Get Out," James Mangold's "Logan," Olivier Assayas' "Personal Shopper," Julia Ducourneau's "Raw," Joseph Cedar's "Norman," and Asghar Farhadi's "The Salesman."
