I really like Richard Brody. He's a smart, articulate film writer who just gets the details right. I might not always agree with his views on film, but he sure as hell can write, and not only does he write, but he does so in a way that recalls the spawned child of Pauline Kael and, yikes, Vincent Canby with an added dose, or more like a forest, of facial hair. This particular tweet by Brody was retweeted, ironically, by the New York Film Critics Circle just days before they awarded their "Best Film" prize to "La La Land," a film drenched in nostalgia for old Hollywood. The irony of it all has probably not hit them yet.
