'Fantastic Beasts' make $8.75M on Thursday, projected to have $90M weekend

"Fantastic Beasts" conjured up the 9th best Thursday opening ever with $8.75 Million. Thursday night previews started at 6pm in over 3,700+ screens nationwide. Projections have it opening at $90+ Million this coming weekend.

The reviews for the film have been mostly mixed to positive with, especially, "Harry Potter" fans being enamored by the new world J.K. Rowling has created. Hell, the screening I went to of David Yates' "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" was filled with Harry Potter fanatics. You see, J.K. Rowling, in origin-story mode, wrote the film and has signed on to write 5 more! Kaching!

The film, which takes place in the year 1926, has the fantastic beasts in the title escaping from the suitcase of expelled Hogwarts magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and wreaking havoc in NYC .
